TIM COWBURY’S THE CLAIM IS COMING TO THE GULBENKIAN

Tim Cowbury’s work with organisations such as Right to Remain and Refugee Council results in The Claim: a production which claims to be empathetic toward its subjects, yet critical of the system that victimises them.

The refugee crisis is one which has been brought to light in the last decade, with a vast array of families forced out of their homes through no fault of their own. With immigration being such a poignant issue in the Pre-Brexit era, an analysis of what the definition of national identity is becomes crucial to consider. What it means to be ‘British’ is beautifully unpacked on stage, whilst conflating this complex concept with what it means to be a refugee.

The absurd comedy of cultural and verbal misunderstandings is balanced by its dive into intense, troubling, and tragic thematic elements. Drawing inspiration from true stories of refugees, the play is a bold, imaginative response to the treatment of those seeking refuge in the U.K.

The Claim will be performed at Gulbenkian on Monday 29 January at 7.30pm. Tickets: £12.80 / GulbCard £10.80 / Student & Under 25s £8.80 / Season Offer £8.50 / Schools £7.80. Suitable for ages 12+.
