Gigs in Kent this Autumn

Do you like concerts? Canterbury has plenty of bars and concert places where you can find talented artists and musicians. One of them is the Marlowe studio right in the heart of the Marlowe Theatre. On 3rd November, the bubble club will present Soft Machine. It is one of the greatest British jazz-rock bands of all time. They have shared the stage with Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They might become one of Europe's best known 'fusion' bands. Soft Machine is known by every single experimentalist, so you definitely have to listen to their work.

The Undercover Hippy will give a concert in the Penny Theatre on Friday 19th October. This band reminds something of the French singer Naâman, it’s definitely reggae but with a hint of blues through the use of a harmonica. They are also a committed band and sing protest songs because ‘music is just the most amazing medium for spreading ideas’ the band said.

On Monday 29th October, the Bramley’s bar in Canterbury will welcome the acoustic singer and songwriter James Kirby. He is currently on his European tour and will enjoy seeing your faces there! If you love acoustic music, just go! By the way, you might have seen him last year when he went to the Gulbenkian Theatre to present his album ‘Foreign Land’. His purified voice will free your mind of all its trouble, for sure.

If you want to discover an indie rock band, you have to be at The Lounge on 30th October. The London band Eliza and the Bear will present their new album ‘Group Therapy’.

If you have the soul of a hard rocker, the band called FRCTRD and Bohemian Grove will give a concert in Ashford on 26th October.

Chase & Status, one of the biggest United Kingdom dubstep, drum and bass band will be at Margate on Friday 2nd November. If you want a more sweet and acoustic night, Kitty Macfarlane will give a show at the Marlowe Theatre.

The Australian Pink Floyd show is coming to Margate Winter Gardens on 13th November and it is basically a tribute show to Pink Floyd. The Times Newspaper in London described them as “The Gold Standard”. The band is renowned all around the world and is a huge one, indeed it is composed of 10 members.

For Beatles lovers, The Mersey Beatles will be in Margate on November 23rd. It is the biggest and better Liverpool Beatles tribute band. On stage, they are the perfect copy of John Lennon and his acolytes: same costumes, same guitars, same look and they even wear the same glasses!

If you don’t want to move out of campus, the Gulbenkian Theatre is where you have to go. On 21st December, it will be the place to see Cara Dillon, an Irish folk singer. The influence of Celtic music in ‘Upon a Winter’s Night’ will take you in the heart of Dublin. Cara can play the guitar, the violin and break you down in tears with her emotional song ‘There Were Roses’.
