Kent Dance wowed once again in their second year of Varsity, bringing home another win for UKC. This is the first year that their win will count towards the overall Varsity total so they were determined to pull another win out the bag. Kent faced C4 Dance in an epic show where both teams produced pieces in various genre’s such as Jazz, Contemporary, Tap and Hip Hop. Kent had Wildcard performances of Irish and Bollywood while Christchurch performed Commercial and Afro numbers. After two hours of heated competition and an hour wait while judges deliberated, Kent were announced Varsity winners.

Kent also won ‘Best Choreography’ for their Advanced Jazz routine (choreographed by Sarah Johns) to the song ‘Love on the Brain’ by Rhianna. Kent’s ‘Best Performer’ award went to Khadija Richmond for her stand-out performance in the Advanced Hip Hop routine ‘Level up’. Other stand-out performances were the Advanced Contemporary routine ‘Sinnerman’ and judges said that all Novice groups performed to an incredibly high standard.

Last year Kent scraped a win by only 1 point but this year Dance smashed it with a win by over 70 points. After the win was announced, both the dancers and onlookers erupted into cheers and screams. Social Sec, Issey Spurway, said “All our dancers were incredible! We’re so happy, we worked so hard to put on the show and winning is the cherry on the cake.”

A great show and a well-deserved win for Kent Dance.
