“SOS Migration: Europe’s Answer”: Join the debate with the Current Affairs Society

Are you interested in Current Affairs? Do you want to engage in an informed debate on crucial contemporary issues?

On Thursday 21 November, from 6.15 pm at the Templeman Lecture Theatre, CAS will hold a panel discussion titled “SOS Migration: Europe’s answer”.

It will be an opportunity to listen to what two very different organisations, SOS Méditeranée and Migration Watch UK, have to say on the topic. The former is a European humanitarian organisation, funded through private donations, which rescues people in need in the Mediterranean. The latter advocates for a drastic reduction of immigration and defines itself as an independent and non-political think tank.

In what is expected to be a very lively discussion, Sheona York, an immigration solicitor working at the Kent Law Clinic will be attending. In the spirit of conducting a productive debate, she will give some time to introduce crucial aspects of migration law.

After the two other panellists present themselves and their organisations, panel discussion will begin, moderated by CAS’ President Sam Williams. Providing a balanced discussion, in which the panellists explain their goals and methods.

If migration is a topic that interests you, come to the Current Affairs Society with some questions in mind. The debate will be concluded with a Q&A session.

The event will be followed by a food and drinks reception, to allow participants to continue debating among themselves and with the panellists.

Entrance is free if you have Current Affairs Society membership. If not, you can buy tickets online on the Kent Union Website, until 4pm on the day. Remember to bring your student ID! We hope to see our current members and many new faces.
