Kent Student Action for Refugees are hosting a film screening of For Sama online for charity.

The showing, which will be on Tuesday 24th March online at 6.30pm, is being screened online with a WhatsApp group to comment about it in real time while it is streamed with Channel 4’s link feature.

The event hopes to collect donations for the charity Hand in Hand for Syria.

All donations will go to the charity.

The screening was originally to be shown at a venue on campus, but has since moved online over fears around the Coronavirus pandemic.

The change comes after the UK Government has banned mass gatherings to curb the spread of the virus in the country.

The Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning documentary, For Sama, tells the story of five years in the life of Waad al-Kateab, as she starts a family whilst conflict increases around her in the city of Aleppo, Syria.

It highlights the struggle between protecting her daughter and fighting for freedom.

As airstrikes on Idlib continue and tensions rise at the Greece-Turkey border, For Sama has become even more necessary in understanding the real-life consequences of escalating geopolitical tensions.

The society are asking for a minimum £3 donation. Extra donations are also welcome.
