University lists Covid-19 changes to Canterbury campus buildings

The University of Kent has announced a number of changes to guidelines on campus in light of the Covid-19 national restrictions coming into force.

The university expects students and staff to follow other advice, which is similar to what has been said by the Government, which includes wearing a mask when entering buildings that cannot enforce social distancing, avoiding cash as much as possible and not being in groups of more than six people.

Keith Williams, who is the Head of Trading at the University, said: “spending time in the outlets on campus is important for many reasons; it helps social interaction, provides a sense of community and aids the general wellbeing of our students and staff.”

“The catering and bar outlets are fundamental in creating a welcoming atmosphere and are tailored to meet the diverse needs of our University community.”

He added: “Our staff are excited that the students are returning.”

“They love supporting and playing an active role in the welfare of our students and signposting them to other services on site.”

“Kent University is such a warm, welcoming place to study and the catering outlets are part of what makes it feel so homely, give a sense of community and inclusivity.”

Students and staff will have to tap their Kent ID cards when entering bars and restaurants which will be used for a campus-wide track and trace system.

Templeman Library has also come out with their guidelines and procedures.

There will be limited study spaces, as well as a few other restrictions, including water fountains not being in use, limited opening hours, and a one-way route system to ensure social distancing.

The library is allowing students and staff to print off any documents, as well as access to online resources. There will also be regular cleaning of tables in the library and across other campus buildings as well.

For many students and staff returning or embarking their academic adventure at the university, it will be strange to get used to, but there is hope.
