Our A/W20 transitional wardrobe staples

Our summer 2020 wardrobes had so much potential with the possibility of so many new trends and designs but due to the pandemic, a lot of us couldn’t grab the fits we had hoped for. However, as we start getting back to our ‘new’ normal way of life, here are some autumn/winter clothing ideas to help you transition into the new season. Hopefully planning out a super stylish outfit can be your escape as we move towards the dreary, cold months ahead.

Leather

Having faux leather in your wardrobe is a must have this season. Two of our favourite a/w wardrobe staple are a pair of leather trousers and a leather blazer. Both items can be styled in so many different ways depending on the desired look so it’s worth making an investment in such a versatile piece.

If you’re looking for a pair of trousers; Zara is the place to look! You can find leather leggings at a student budget friendly price of £29.99. High-waisted, tight fitting and in multiple autumnal colours; you’ll be able to create any outfit with these in your wardrobe. We would pair leather leggings with an oversized roll neck jumper for a comfy but chic daytime look. These would also switch upi your look and pair them with a bodysuit, chunky boots and a longline trench or borg coat for a lunch time date. Alternatively, you could pair these with a going out blouse and strappy heels for a night on the town.

A leather blazer is another great item to have in your wardrobe as the possibilities of outfits with this in your wardrobe are endless. You could wear it with a jumper underneath and some jeans. Or, match it with a turtleneck top and skirt if you’re out for dinner and drinks. You can grab a blazer in most online stores such as Boohoo, who have one for £38.50 in the sale and offer free next day delivery for students!

Cable Knitwear

The colder it gets outside the more you want to stay cosy and warm when heading out, so having knitwear in your wardrobe is perfect! Cable knit sweater vests have become very popular this season with our favourite influencers layering them over shirts or t-shirts. For a complete outfit, add a pair of leather shorts or a leather mini skirt, to dress it up for a night out. H&M have a great range of cable knit vests. We recommend picking up a sweater vest in a neutral colour as it makes it easier to match with other items of an tumunal colour palette!

Oversized Shackets

For those of you who haven’t come across the term ‘shacket’ before, it’s basically a shirt that is thick enough to be worn as a jacket and it’s an ideal layering piece to have this autumn. Oversized clothing is a popular fashion trend at the moment, so who wouldn’t want a comfy oversized shacket to throw on top of any outfit? Brands are selling many versions of ‘the shacket’, with Prettylittlething doing a cute checked number that is only £27 in the sale! Style it just like the model does with a crop top and some joggers for a dressed down look to wear for your daily Zoom meetings!

Flares

Flared trousers have made a return from the 70s and are a great base item to create any outfit. If you’re someone like me who is short and struggles to find trousers that actually fit you, these Bershka flared trousers are great! These come in black or brown and although they look like they’re cropped, if you’re 5’5 or below they will be the perfect length and are a very flattering fit. Costing £17.99, these trousers will carry you through the seasons as these look great with a cropped milkmaid style blouse from your summer wardrobe. For autumn/winter I would pair the trousers with a sweatshirt for a casual look. Or if you’re going out, a crop top layered with an oversized shacket will complete this fabulous fit!
