This year, we are finally hoping that things will get back to some sort of normal, and so does all of Kent. In this series, you will find a roadmap to the biggest cultural events happening in the region this year. These events range from musical performances to exhibitions, through all genres of performances and cultural happenings you can think of — and will hopefully constitute a way for you to (re)discover Kent as it is meant to be enjoyed.

For this second instalment of the series, we are looking at the city of Folkestone. Despite being on the Southern coast, the city is easily accessible by bus from Canterbury and offers a lot of sights and attractions.

  • As usual, the main event of the year is the Triennal, returning for its fifth year. This is described as "one of the UK's most ambitious art exhibitions" and this year's edition, titled the Plot, is focusing on movement and circulation after a year of stillness. This will be running until the 2nd of November. 23 new artworks are being displayed in the town's streets, joining the 74 other already existing.

  • Alongside the exhibition, you can enjoy film screenings, tours, skating jams and artist-led events in the town for the duration of the Triennal.

  • The Quarterhouse is putting on four new productions throughout autumn, ranging from comedies to dystopia. Several films will also be screening throughout the year, so keep an eye out for their programme!

  • The annual Open Quarter, ten days of exhibitions, performances workshops, on-street entertainment, live music and much more, also returns in September 2021.

While autumn will be packed with very diverse events in Folkestone and will provide everyone with opportunities to enjoy cultural and artistic moments, events in winter and spring are still unsure and therefore have not been announced yet.
