Time to set the scene. It’s a snowy night outside, you have your Christmas decorations up alongside your tree and your fireplace is all set up. You’re all ready for your Christmas Movie Night with the family. A night full of the best seasonal movies and snuggling up together on the couch. Oh wait, you have no idea where to start with movies, what to eat or even what to wear. This is where we can help!

Movies:

In order to have a Christmas movie night, you obviously need to watch a movie. The only problem is what movie to watch when there are so many options. Below are some options of some movies we love and would recommend to a friend.

· Home Alone 1 and 2 – Well, Christmas isn’t truly Christmas without hearing the words ‘Keep the change, ya filthy animal’. It is a must to watch both Home Alone movies and dream about what it would have been like to stay home alone and to eat all the ice cream we want (one of the great joys of being a student come to think of it!).

· Disney’s Once Upon a Christmas - This is an ultimate Disney Classic! Disney and Christmas hits in a different way because it reminds you of being a little child, where you were in such a safe space where stress and exams didn’t exist, just stuck in your own bubble.

· Harry Potter – Who said that Harry Potter is only for Halloween? Harry Potter can also be for Christmas! Just imagine, all snuggled up, watching Harry, Ron and Hermione entering the Great Hall and having their giant feast, very similar to having Christmas dinner at school (or in the Rutherford Dining Hall!). Or the infamous scene, in the Gryffindor Common Room, where Harry gets his first Christmas present. Chills, literal chills!

These are only a few suggestions but there are so many other Christmas Movies that you could watch from the Classics to the Children’s movies, it is for everyone!

Christmas snacks!

· Sugar cookies – It would be a fun activity in itself to gather all the family members (or flatmates) round to make some sugar cookies for Movie Night. You can ice however you want with whatever toppings you wish, silver balls, sprinkles go wild!

· Hot chocolate topping board – Movie night would be incomplete without hot chocolate of course but why not make it a bit more fun by having a topping board to put on top of your hot chocolate. This could include whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, Cadbury’s Flake, whatever you want!

· Sundaes – Well if you’re going to be watching Home Alone then making a sundae goes hand in hand with that! Grab your favourite ice cream and decorate using the items from your hot cholate board, two treats in one – you can’t go wrong!

· Mince pies – Ah yes, the one pie that confuses everyone. No, there is no minced meat in mince pie, no matter what the recipe says. This sweet shortcrust pastry treat is a perfect addition to the collection of an ideal Christmas movie night.

· Gingerbread – Well, Gingerbread houses. That’s it. Gingerbread is such an integral part to Christmas, but if you can’t make gingerbread houses then you can make gingerbread cookies or if you don’t have time at all then Digestives Biscuits have released a Gingerbread version of Digestives so you could give that a try.

· Eggnog – Eggnog is one of Christmas’s most notable items however sometimes, there is a bit of apprehension due to the fact that it can include alcohol or due to the use of egg whites however there are recipes online that caters for those who don’t drink alcohol or those who can’t have dairy products. Our tried and tested recipe can be found here.

Pyjamas

· Primark – Well Primark is always the best place to go to for anything, but they recently released their Christmas collection where you’re able to get matching family pyjamas from £6. They have a style for everyone, from traditional Fair Isle patterns to humorous slogans and sets featuring your favourite Christmas characters.

· Matalan – Matalan also provide matching Christmas pyjama sets for Unisex, Women and Men from £14 with fun slogans, elves, gnomes, and penguin prints. These can be found in store or online here.

· TU Clothing – Christmas pyjamas from TU clothing start from £8 onwards where you could get a gingerbread print dress to a matching Peaky Blinders or Looney Tunes pyjamas.

I really hope these suggestions helps with your own Christmas night! Please send through pictures of your own Christmas movie night by either tagging us on Instagram or via the hashtag #InquireXmasNightIn. Have a merry Christmas!
